Recovery Iowa Mission

Recovery Iowa seeks to:

  • Raise public awareness through education that alcohol, drug, and gambling disorders are this country's number one public health problem. Addiction touches the lives of one out of ten Americans.
  • Eliminate the stigma associated with addiction and recovery and accord dignity to people with addiction.
  • Improve the attitudes and awareness about substance use recovery issues.
  • Support the "Recovery Bill of Rights", which states the rights of those in recovery from addiction.
  • Call attention to the positive outcomes of treatment and recovery programs.
  • Create a network of people from the recovering community, and all others concerned about the recovery process, to assist in educating policy makers, service providers, legislators and the public.
  • Give a voice to the recovery community.

What can I do?

Whether you are in recovery, or whether you are a family member, loved one, neighbor, employer, or friend, show your support for recovery by Signing Up and Standing Up for Recovery.

Visit the Take Action page for more ways to advocate for recovery.

"Today I am a contributing member to our community. How did I become so fortunate? Through all the efforts Iowa devotes to recovery! Investing in recovery means we decide not to throw away the skills and lives of many of Iowa's citizens. Not devoting upfront resources to recovery simply means we'll pay for the damage--prison, welfare, health care--with no potential for the real cause to be assisted. I suspect if Iowa would become purposeful we could make a mark in the world about how to treat chemical dependency, save lives, and reduce many unnecessary costs. Let's try!"
