Recovery works!! My story is typical of many in Iowa. I began using recreationally in the 70's as a teen. My use progressed to the point where I began criminal activity in order to maintain my narcotic habit which ultimately landed me in prison and the community correctional system in which I was once employed as a Probation Officer. After my last crime (forging prescriptions) I went into treatment at the Pride Institute in Los Angeles in 1996. I remained clean, went back to school and obtained my AS, BA, and finally my MA degree in Professional Counseling. I am now certified as an addiction counselor at the state and national levels as well as holding a license in the state of New Mexico. I have worked in the substance abuse field for several years now and am currently working toward licensure as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. Recovery works!! |
